Vinification

Spontaneous fermentation for 20 days in controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks (50- and 70-hectoliter).
Malolactic fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures. Use of ‘submerged cap’ method.

Soil

Marine sediments from Pliocene epoch, sand, and clay mix.

Vineyard

Fabbrica, Southern Montalcino, 370 m.a.s.l., planted in 2007. Rows run east to west, planted 250x80 cm apart with 5,000 vines per hectare.

Exposure

The vineyards are situated in the southern part of the commune of Montalcino, at an altitude of 370 meters above sea level. This is a fresh, well-ventilated zone, which helps us to have healthy grapes, with minimal use of pesticides and no use of fungicides whatsoever. There is sufficient rainfall, especially in July and August, which allows the grapes to attain full ripeness without the vines suffering water stress.

Tasting Notes

Ruby red color, aromas of plum, blue flower, new leather, and French oak on the nose. On the full-bodied palate, flavors of vanilla and licorice complement a core of black cherry, with tightly woven tannins providing structure. Fresh acidity maintains balance.
