Vineyards

The vineyards of the La Casaccia farm benefit from a splendid position, thanks to their particular microclimate and the fossil-based soil with its medium-textured marly limestone composition, rich in galestro (rocky, schistous clay) and calcium carbonate.

OUR PHILOSPHY

The balance between ecology and excellence

The estate, in its fairly small total area of 12 hectares of vineyards, is focused on seeking to make outstanding wines. This is the result of a process of strict selection, which initially takes place by hand both before and during the harvest, and subsequently in the winery.

The estate insists on using organic methods for its crops, seeking a balance between ecology and a positive result in the finished product.

The fruit is also honored and  given added value in the winery where, thanks to the use of the most modern technology, such as the optical grape sorter, the meticulous  process aimed at putting into bottle only the very finest part of the product is completed.

La Casaccia di Franceschi can already boast diversified crops, including olives and truffles, but these merely act as accessories to the real protagonists, the vines.

La Casaccia is spread over two territories: Podere La Casaccia in Montalcino (SI) and le Spinaie in the municipality of Cinigiano (GR).

7 HECTARES OF VINEYARD | SANGIOVESE & MERLOT

MONTALCINO

Podere la Casaccia is situated at Sant’Angelo in Colle, a strategically positioned little medieval village at over 500 meters above sea level, sheltered to the northwest southeast by Mount Amiata and facing southeast southwest towards the unspoiled stretch of Mediterranean scrubland that reaches down to the sea.

Here Tuscany’s indigenous grape par excellence, Sangiovese, is the protagonist and, when combined with Merlot, creates a perfect balance between power and elegance.

Characterized by soils that are made up predominantly of deposits of the Sillano Formation, belonging to the Cretaceous period (a very ancient geological era), characterized by grayish brown argillites and fine limestones, often interspersed with each other.

This characteristic, combined with the presence in the soils of calcium carbonate makes them of interest for high-quality viticulture.

5 HECTARES OF VINEYARD | CARMENERE, CABERNET FRANC, MERLOT E CABERNET SAUVIGNON

LE SPINAIE

At Cinigiano, in the Province of Grosseto,  there are the estate’s other 5 hectares of land, lying between the Ombrone Valley, the last stretch of the Orcia Valley  and the western slopes of the volcanic cone of Mount Amiata.

At an altitude of 346 metres above sea level, in addition to deposits characterised by argillites, deposits of limestone, marlstone and marlstone, the M. Gottero formation, also from the Cretaceous, are stratified here.

These soils, which are completely different from the others, are characterised by alternating layers of clay and sandy layers with pebble skeletons of varying sizes.

Here, the land is entirely dedicated to the cultivation of international grapes in order to demonstrate the potential of the area when the product is completed.

Carmenere, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are cultivated.
